Portugal / One To One

A bodyboarding holiday in Portugal with your own personal guide and instructor

Ability: All abilities welcome, from new bodyboarders to experienced shredders

Are you eager to get away, score sick waves, sky rocket your bodyboarding performance, have fun in the sun and get a real feel for Portugal’s bohemian lifestyle but all your mates are tied up with work or lacking the funds? If yes, then this is the perfect trip for you!

Our Aim

Our man on the ground in Portugal Matt ‘Mave’ Davies will host, coach and guide you to the best breaks his adopted home has to offer.

He rips both prone and dropknee and knows the place better than any local.

The Waves

If Carlsberg built bodyboarding destinations I’m sure they’d base their blue print on Portugal. Portugal has such a variety of bodyboarding spots it’s ridiculous. It’s no coincidence that Pierre Louis Costes, IBA World champion chose to move here in 2010.

Within just a 35 minute radius of Matt’s place there are breakwall wedges, flat bottomed sandbars, mellow point breaks (for those DK lovers), fun beachies and heavy shorebreaks. 90minutes to the North you have the famed Supertubos, that does exactly what it says on the tin, and the notorious big wave spot Praia do Norte in Nazare. So whatever your taste in waves Portugal has it all!

Climate

The water temperature fluctuates from 14°C to 18°C and air temps between 14°C in winter and 35+°C in summer, which means this place is never too hot or too cold, in or out the water.

Accommodation

Take a step back in time, you’ll be staying in the historic and picturesque village of Colares with stunning views of the Serra de Sintra and just 5 minutes from the beach. Matt has a clean and comfortable two-bedroom apartment with kitchen, dining area, living room, bathroom and WiFi throughout. The apartment overlooks a charming square that boasts cafés a local bakery, grocery store and hardware store.

Coaching

Matt will deliver expert daily tuition tailored to your ability. He is lifeguard qualified and has some twenty years of surfing experience and fifteen years of worldwide travel experience. He was personally trained by British team coach, Rob Barber and holds an ISA surf coaching qualification.

Intermediate and advanced level coaching is tailored towards the individual.

Beginner coaching includes:

  • Oceanography class at the start of the week to understand breaks, rips and currents
  • Video and photo analysis
  • Bodyboarding safety, beach awareness and how to catch waves
