Why bodyboarding is the perfect family activity

Why bodyboarding is the perfect family activity

1. All for one, and one for all
Unlike many other extreme sports, bodyboarding is a wholesome activity, where everyone in the family can learn and surf together in a safe, fun environment. On our most recent holiday, the Whitworth family from London came with a great sense of fun and competitiveness that really helped push one another in the water. It was very special to see the family bond in the waves and every session was a real giggle.

2. Instant fun
While it has taken years for the World’s best to master, bodyboarding is actually a relatively easy water sport to pick up and is accessible to all members of a family regardless of age or physical ability. You will catch a wave within the first 10 minutes of entering the water and that’s a guarantee! On our last trip, the Whitworths quickly progressed to green/unbroken waves within just two days! Such progress would take you months or even years to achieve if you were learning to stand-up surf.

3. Fitness
Bodyboarding is great for your fitness; in fact it offers a full body workout. Better still, you don’t even realize how much exercise you are doing as your senses are constantly being bombarded with the very best of Mother Nature. One mum commented on the blissful sense of contentedness when arriving back completely exhausted and sun baked after a long day’s surfing. She also said drinking wine of an evening became a guilt free pleasure as she felt she had really earned it.

4. Safety
On our family bodyboard holidays, ocean safety is our number one priority, giving everyone the confidence to relax and focus on the bodyboarding. Day one of our holidays kicks off with a thorough oceanography & ocean awareness lesson, and safety issues are reviewed before entering the water each day. In addition, we only surf at lifeguarded beaches and in conditions that are suited to your ability and experience. All of our instructors are lifeguard trained and have more than 20 years of ocean experience.

Finally, bodyboarding is far safer than surfing. The majority of surfing injuries are caused by collisions with the hard surfboard, whereas if you get hit by your foam bodyboard, it really doesn’t hurt!

5. Cheap as chips
Compared to other water sports, bodyboarding equipment is relatively cheap with a one off purchase of a good wetsuit, bodyboard, and pair of fins being £170, £150 and £40, respectively. What’s more, the equipment is virtually indestructible so it can last you a lifetime. Or we hire top quality equipment for the duration of your stay with us.
