If we don’t answer your questions below please drop us an email or give us a call! To view the answers, click on the blue highlighted questions below and they’ll drop down with the answer for you.

Can I arrive early/leave later than the official dates?

Yes you can! You can enter or leave the country as it suits you. If you are already in the country you can either meet us at the destination on the start date or meet us at the airport when we are touching down. Vice versa, you can stay on after the coaching holiday for as long as you want. Just let us know your needs and we will be only too happy to help.

What if I fall ill or injure myself on the trip?

In the unfortunate circumstance of sickness or injury our staff are fully first aid trained, qualified beach lifeguards and have developed a thorough site specific risk assessment and action procedures that will be used to deal with any situation. We have mobile phones to stay in touch with the local medical emergency facilities and knowledge of the location of medical centres. We also carry with us a well-equipped first aid kit. We recommend you seek advice from your doctor regarding inoculations before setting off and to look after your body daily with plenty of hydration, shade from the sun and rest. We also require everyone to carry travel insurance.

Will I be able to hire or buy bodyboarding equipment in the location that we visit?

Most of the places that we visit will not have bodyboarding kit available. It is a good idea to take the kit that you need and spares. If you require any equipment why not visit our bodyboard shop.

Do I need to lock my bag?

Locks for your bag are a good idea but aren’t an essential travel requirement.

Can I bring a snorkel, diving mask, Frisbee etc?

You are welcome to bring any further equipment that you may need to enjoy your trip but be aware of your weight allowance.

Can you cater for special dietary requirements?

In some locations our hosts will supply meals and snacks. If you have specific dietary requirements, allergies etc it is always best to let us know before hand and provision can be made.

Can you offer me advice regarding travelling with my bodyboarding equipment?

We recommend that you buy a padded bodyboard bag to safely transport your kit. Each different airlin

e has a separate carriage policy which you should always check before booking. It often works out cheaper with budget airlines to travel with one board bag which will contain your bodyboarding equipment, clothing, toiletries – everything.

What currency will I need and do I need to bring money with me?

Each country requires different currency. We will let you know in our pre-trip info email whether we recommend you bring currency with you or you can change it on arrival.

I’m concerned about what happens when I arrive at the airport in a foreign country?

Although some of our trips appear to be in far off lands, the airports that you land at are very civilised places. When you come through the sliding doors of arrivals one of our representatives will be waiting for you. If for some reason there is no one there (this occasionally happens when flights are delayed or arrive early) just wait with your bags outside the sliding doors to one side. We won’t be far away!

What if I don’t want to go bodyboarding one day?

We really can’t make the point enough that it isn’t a boot camp and as such, if you wake up one morning and want to lay in and join the class in the afternoon and miss the morning session that is fine. It is a holiday after all and it’s all about having fun in a no pressure environment. By the same token if there is a local volcano that you’d like to climb or a city that you would like to visit, we can usually help you to organise other excursions.

How fit do I need to be?

The fitter that you are, the more you will get out of the trip. If you can’t get to the sea regularly then you can improve your fitness with time at your local swimming pool. If they let you swim train with fins on, even better. It really isn’t boot camp though, if you come along and your fitness levels aren’t great, you will certainly feel the benefits of bodyboard coaching through your trip, you’ll feel muscles that you never new you had. Many people use our trips as a means to lose weight, get fit, get a tan and feel great. Whenever you get tired, you can simply get out of the water and chill on the beach in the sun! Even If before you attend the trip you only have the time to stretch regularly, or go out for a ride on your pushbike, that will help a lot. It can be frustrating for some clients who want to surf more but by day 3 or 4 are feeling the burn. That said, shorter sessions, then chilling on the beach is also a great way to spend the day.

Do I need coaching before I come on one of your trips?

90% of our customers have had coaching of some form from us before coming on a trip. This doesn’t mean that it is essential. But it certainly doesn’t hurt as it gives you a head start with your technique and something to aim for before you go. We can often do you a great deal on a bodyboard coaching session if you have booked on a holiday. It’s great to meet before the trip begins then we can chat about everything from equipment to what you’ll be eating for breakfast. But it isn’t essential!

Am I good enough to go to Morocco/Indonesia/other destinations?

Again a very common question. Just because when you think of Indonesia you think of 8 foot grinding G-Land barrels like you see in the magazines, it doesn’t mean that we are going to take you to a spot like that if you have only been bodyboarding for 2 weeks. By the same token, if you have been bodyboarding all your life we aren’t going to ask you to surf in 1-2 foot learner waves. We treat all our customers as individuals and choose our destinations and coastal areas very carefully so that there is something for everyone on the majority of swell and weather conditions. Your safety and enjoyment are paramount!

Will I be the oldest/youngest person on the trip?

This is the most common question that we are asked. The age spread is always vast on our trips. From keen teens to silver surfers. Take a look at our testimonials page and trip pictures

you will see that there are a great mix of ages and nationalities. We all have one thing in common though, we all are keen to bodyboard, which always creates a great group dynamic. Never let your age put you off bodyboarding. It’s one of the beauties of the sport, it offers something for all ages.

What equipment will I need for my trip?

We have our own shop, The Bodyboard-Depot Not only can we recommend the best kit for the trip that you are going on, we can also offer great deals as you are part of one of our holidays. Always speak to us before buying the wrong kit from ill informed retailers. We know more about the conditions, temperatures and other variables and can recommend the best kit to suit your budget, so please chat to us and we can offer trained, experienced advice. We have loads of hand picked stock on our website and if it isn’t on there, we can almost always get it for you.

I am under 18, can I come on one of your trips?

Our bodyboard coaching trips abroad (outside of the UK) are open to people under the age of 18 but they need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian of 18 or over. This can easily be an older brother, sister or friend. Our courses in the UK are open to under 18’s un-accompanied but you need to have a disclaimer signed by your parent/guardian. Drop us a line and we can forward you the form.

I can’t seem to find flights that suit the dates or I can’t find flights that are reasonable prices?

We work with a number of travel agents that offer competitive deals on flights so can often help. We can also let you know the companies that we usually fly with and the best tricks of the trade to find the best flights from the best websites/travel agents. Also if you need to arrive late or leave early then this is usually fine as well.

Is it ok for my non-bodyboarding girlfriend/boyfriend/mother/father/friend to come on the trip?

Again, this is a very common question that we are asked. The answer is “No worries at all”. Most of the places that we visit offer a multitude of different activities available for non-bodyboarding travel partners. From checking out Moroccan Souks, to visiting Indonesian Monkey-temples to horse riding in Nicaragua, snorkelling in Nusa Lembongan to swimming in waterfalls in Costa Rica. We will put together a price that doesn’t include the bodyboard instruction aspect of the trip and also let you know the full range of alternative options that are available.

I want to come on one of your trips but the dates are no good for me?

This often isn’t as big a problem as you think. Please drop us an email with your preferred location and the dates that you CAN make it. We often have people that will join a two week trip for only a week, or some times we can build a package to suit you and your friends. We also have a great international network of instructors that we can often contact and build a package for you – Nothing is impossible, just let us know and we will try out best to make it happen. Check out our gold select option and we can create a package just for you!

What can I expect from the Bodyboard Coaching?

Rob Barber and his coaching team offer daily tuition tailored to your ability. Experienced lifeguards, some of the team have twenty year’s surfing experience and fifteen years of worldwide travel experience including British team coach, Rob Barber.
Intermediate and advanced level coaching is tailored towards the individual and will be agreed after goals have been set and an initial surf assessment has occurred.

Beginner coaching includes:

  • Oceanography class at the start of the week to understand breaks, rips and currents
  • Bodyboarding safety, beach awareness and how to catch waves
  • How to paddle out, gain speed, duck dive and wipe out safely
  • Learning moves such as cutbacks, barrel rolls and threesixty spins
  • How to get the most from your equipment while having heaps of fun

Each trips itinerary is flexible as we’re continually at the mercy of the earth’s swell conditions. Generally, we undertake daily Surfaris to find the best waves for shredding with the option of surfing from first light on a daily basis.
Sometimes we split the group to accommodate beginners and experienced riders to ensure everyone gets the most from their holiday. After each session we either chill at the beach or grab food at the beach cafes or our bodyboard lodge. Then we head out for afternoon or evening sessions which usually conclude under an epic sunset. You don’t have to attend every session though. It’s your holiday, the trip is totally yours.
We take videos and photographs for analysis to help improve your riding double fast. Each evening we review the footage (when conditions have been suitable) and give feedback on how you’ve mastered the moves you’ve been taught – or not . . . all our feedback is constructive and helps riders improve their technique. We also see some quality wipe-outs and facial expressions as you score the most fun waves the area has to offer. Our analysis sessions are fun as well as informative!

The last day is departure day and generally there will be no bodyboarding on that day. We guarantee an improvement in your bodyboarding skills as well as some amazing memories
