North Africa Adventure Division Bodyboard Holiday | Waves at the Saharan Gateway

Ability: Suitable for bodyboarders who are comfortable riding waves of head high and bigger (please click the Booking Information tab below for further information). Join us on a journey back in time for some world-class bodyboard coaching. Discovering the way life was before the popularisation of surfing and bodyboarding across the globe.

Our Aim

We’re heading out on an expedition of discovery, sleeping under the stars and hunting spectacular tubes. The desire to discover uncrowded waves in Morocco has led the Bodyboard Holidays team on an exploration, scouring the coastline from the north to south and back again – the result? Our North Africa Adventure Division Bodyboard Holiday, it offers a completely unique off the grid experience. You’ll spend a week or two bodyboarding fantastic waves at our Secret Morocco location but this package includes a two-day expedition to hunt even more secluded waves. During your holiday you’ll enjoy unspoiled beaches and line-ups with fantastic wave selections all within a stone’s throw of one another. Picture endless beaches strewn with A-frame peaks, hidden wedges bowling under headlands and a perfect point break with no-one in sight. Pure bodyboarding heaven. At some point in the week we then pack our bodyboard bags and a few basics for our Adventure Division expedition. After lunch, we’ll leave our beachfront accommodation and jump into 4 x 4s to make our way south down the coast. En route we’ll check out a few of our favourite secret spots for a session then we’ll continue our journey, deep into a baron and uninhabited landscape. Heading away from civilization we’ll follow our local guides to the gateway of the Sahara where the road turns to dust and craggy hills replace townships that tower over the ocean. We stop to enjoy a selection of incredible natural landmarks along the way. Our final destination is a deserted and derelict town located at the end of a river that flows into the ocean. Overlooking a striking surf break sits a traditional fisherman’s hut owned by a Bedouin and this is where we make camp, just before sunset. We’ll forage the remote beach for firewood, crack open a beer and enjoy some chilled music while a Berber meal is prepared by our skilled guides. This is often fish if they’ve been lucky with their catch. Sitting round the campfire sharing stories and camaraderie under a silent starlit sky is an incredible experience after which we spend the night in peaceful darkness. It’s the best setting for a great night’s sleep. We’ll wake at dawn to witness the sun climbing over the cliff tops which illuminates ripple after ripple of empty waves. The sound of them breaking from the comfort of your bed brings home the true measure of our camp’s solitude. You’ll eat breakfast with the crew then head out for a fun bodyboarding session in front of the camp. Then we’ll head back up the coast to our accommodation for lunch, stopping at numerous surf spots wherever we see good waves. An afternoon coaching session will also be available. We’re excited to share our newest discovery with you. The only thing we ask is that you keep this wave-rich spot a secret. You can then enjoy it with us for many years to come.

The Waves

The swell here is ever abundant in fact we’re spoilt for choice with big or small waves depending on full or low tides. You’ll find a plethora of crystal-clear wedges refracting under orange cathedral-sized cliff tops and rocky outcrops, and there are playful beach breaks and point breaks that create waves suited to riders of any ability. The perfect left-hand wedge on the beach directly under our accommodation is heaven-sent for an idyllic sunrise or sunset session.

Morocco has hot and dry winter weather. The waves are consistent in November and March, the water temperature is around 18-20°C. A 3/2 wetsuit is recommended or you can wear a shorty if it’s really warm.

Our stunning villas and apartments are situated on a cliff top overlooking a fantastic surf spot. Complete with large double bedrooms, big living areas with satellite TV, fully equipped kitchens, Wifi, and modern bathrooms, they’re perfect for surf watching while enjoying a drink on the balcony. Some have access to swimming pools. The buildings are architecturally beautiful throughout in this exceptionally enviable location.
