Croyde Bodyboard Holiday | North Devon’s bodyboarding hotspot
Ability: All abilities welcome from new bodyboarders to experienced shredders.
If there were a bucket list of surf spots in the UK, Croyde Bay would definitely be in the top three. We’re heading to North Devon this October, the optimum swell season, for a 48hour bodyboard immersion mission to score the infamous low-tide barrels at the UK’s sickest beach break.
‘Devon’ is derived from the name of the Britons who inhabited the South West at the time of the Roman invasion known as the Dummonli, meaning ‘deep valley dwellers’.
Like the Roman’s, we’ll be invading the land of the deep valley dwellers for pastures new, but in search of bodyboarding riches. This is our first conquest to Devon, and we’re excited to make Croyde the latest destination on our awesome list of bodyboarding coaching weekends. Not only is Croyde one of the finest beach breaks in the UK but it’s conveniently situated just one hour from the M5, making it a more accessible spot for those coming from the North and the East of the country. What’s more, the pristine sandy beaches of North Devon set the backdrop of what is one of the UK’s most beautiful counties, where rolling green hills and farmland merge with the stunning Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks.
Our aim is to offer a full bodyboarding immersion, with 4 surf sessions, photo and video analysis, coached by a team of enthusiastic and accomplished bodyboarders in waves made for booging. So whether you’re an experienced rider or novice to the sport, you will definitely go home a better booger.
With its French like sandbars and California style laidback beach vibe, Croyde is certainly the jewel in North Devon’s surfing crown. However, Devonshire ha an abundance of other quality surf spots up its sleeve, from the mellower breaks of Saunton and Putsborough, to the punchy waves of Woolacombe, and the endlessly long rides of Lynmouth. Not to mention the surrounding secret spots along this unchartered coastline. What’s more, we’re heading there during prime surfing season! According to the Stormrider guide, October is the most consistent time to surf in Devon with an 80% consistency rating. In October the air and water temperatures are also reasonable, the winds consistently offshore and the marauding summer circus has long since departed.
October is not only an ideal month for waves, but in recent years the South West has enjoyed a series of glorious late Indian summers, where boardies and flip-flops at the beach are not uncommon in October. Even in an Indian Summer free year, Devon, influenced by the North Atlantic Drift, benefits from comparatively mild Autumn temperatures with average highs at and lows at 11°C and 15°C respectively, and comfortable 14°C water temperatures. A full 3/2mm or 4/3mm will be more than sufficient.
We will be recommending accommodation near to Croyde beach. This will be confirmed shortly. Please do not book anything until confirmed with us.

With fantastic local produce and passionate producers, Devon’s food and drink is gaining a reputation for being outstanding. The secret to its culinary success is in the landscape; served by the clean and temperate waters of the Atlantic makes for some of the finest seafood in the UK, while the lush fertile soils of the valleys produces excellent fruit and vegetables. The county is famed for a number of regional specialities including Devonshire cream teas, Pasties (similar to the Cornish pasty but crimped along the top as opposed to around the edge), and the knee knocking Scrumpy cider.
Clients are expected to purchase their own food and drink throughout the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday we’ll lunch at a good local restaurant/cafe on the advice of our local guide where we encourage you to try some of the tasty specialities mentioned above.
