How to Score the Best Waves in Cornwall

We all wish that we had more time to bodyboard. When we get a window to score waves we need to make sure that we make the most of it. We just spent a great day researching this blog post and scored some SICK waves around Cornwall. Here are 5 tips to help you score during your next visit to Cornwall.

1. Remember this rule: Local knowledge is way more valuable than what a surf forecasting website has to say. So get in touch with the locals and ask them. Connect with bodyboarders through facebook or Instagram.

2. There is an obsession with swell size and wind direction. Tide is at least as important as both of those. The correct tide will turn 2 foot slop in to wedgy fun. So get dialled in to the tides time and buy a tide time table.

3. Find the best sand banks. When you roll up to a new area, ask in the local surf shop, ask the lifeguards, ask at your local bodyboard school where the best banks are. The ocean floor is ever changing shape in cornwall and locating those sand bars will determine where the sucky waves are.

4. Bigger isn’t always better. Remember that to have a really fun surf you need to be catching plenty of waves, maximising the length of your ride and minimising the amount of paddling out that you are doing. So don’t hit up that maxed out beach break, seek sheltered perfection. Nobody enjoys a constant duck-dive-fest.

5. Join one of our Bodyboard Weekends. We do all of the above for you!
